The Fluval Edge Aquarium is becoming increasingly popular for fish aquarium keepers. The Fluval kit comes well packaged and is quite simple to assemble. Unfortunately however, the fluval kit doesn’t come with a heater which is really quite necessary if you are going to keep tropical freshwater fish. This is one of the downsides to the kit, but fluval have a very nice heater which you can purchase separately.
The most attractive aspect of the Fluval Edge Aquarium, however, is the unique modern design which is incredibly beautiful. Some tanks can look downright ugly and cumbersome with wires everywhere, but this one is pretty gorgeous and sleek and you’ll be very impressed when you put it all together. There is a great system to hide the cables from view so you can see your fish without looking through wires and you get a 360 degree view of the fish which is remarkable.
However, to accommodate the lovely cube design, Fluval have made some adaptations to the tank that some people find challenging.
Most notably, Fluval have made the only access to the tank a small opening at the top which does make it a little more tricky than usual to do any maintenance on the tank. I’m prepared to cope with this however, since the design is really so lovely to look at and Fluval have got a maintenance kit with specially shaped tools to help out including triangular shaped nets and an algae magnet scraper shaped to get right into the aquarium’s corners.Also, the lights are on a fixture than can be retracted when you work on the tank. However, when you are doing this, there is no light in the tank so you’ll need a well lit room or extra light source to help out.
If you are one of those hobbyists that likes to plant in their aquarium, then the Fluval Edge is a bit more challenging. The halogen bulbs that the kit comes with are very warm and aren’t the best for planted aquaria. The lights though, do contribute a wonderful effect which complements the design of the tank.
Despite some of these small issues, the Fluval Edge is an aesthetically pleasing tank which will give you loads of pleasure and enjoyment. With a bit of effort and patience you can make a really beautiful and rewarding tank that will generate envious comments from all who look at it.
